What the finance & insurance sector sends us most often
Finance is the country's leading sector, and its documentation is produced to be read somewhere else: an investor in Asia, a depositary in another member state, an auditor passing through, a supervisor here. Investment funds, management companies, banks and audit firms send us the texts that circulate between those readers. A prospectus, an annual report or a compliance policy admits no approximation: one misplaced phrase alters the reach of an undertaking.
Accounts and annual reports
Annual accounts, notes, management reports and commentary written for shareholders based outside the country.
Funds and management companies
Constitutional documents, prospectuses, key investor information, half-year reports and delegation agreements.
Banking files
Statements, balance certificates, credit deeds and finance lease contracts presented to a foreign institution.
Insurance
Policies, particular conditions, cover limits and lists of exclusions.
Compliance and internal control
Anti-money laundering policies, know your customer files, internal procedures and control reports.
Authorisations and licences
Licence applications and documents intended for the CSSF, mandates, delegations and internal organisation papers.
The finance & insurance sector in a country where three languages coexist
The Luxembourg financial centre keeps banks, funds, management companies, depositaries and audit and advisory houses at work, and all that activity produces texts whose worth hangs on the right word. A prospectus, a key information document, a compliance note or an annual report tolerate no approximation: a share class wrongly labelled, a risk factor softened, an accounting heading slipping from one framework into another, and the document becomes inaccurate. Our linguists in this field work with the frameworks in front of them and never fill a doubt with an elegant phrase.
English dominates the documentation, but it coexists with the French of deeds and of exchanges with the authorities, the German of investors and counterparties from the region, and further distribution languages as soon as a product is marketed outside the country. Then there is the insurance side, where cover categories do not overlap from one market to another: a contract tracked word for word ends up describing protection that exists in neither system. So we reason by equivalence of function, and we flag the gaps rather than paper over them.
Confidentiality is no stylistic flourish on files of this kind. Only two people reach the documents, the account manager and the assigned linguist, no copy circulates, and after delivery everything is erased as soon as you ask. A project tied to a publication date can be handled under embargo, and we sign your own agreement before any file is opened.

When the spoken word counts as much as the written one
A moment comes when the question has to be asked out loud and the answer commits what follows. That is where the interpreter steps in.
Bank appointments
Entering into a relationship, processing a financing request, walking through a rate or early exit clause.
Inspection visits
Interviews run by an internal or external auditor, where nothing may be added to or taken from what is said.
Boards and general meetings
A sitting of a board or a committee where one member does not follow the discussion in the working language.
Year-end and sign-off
Exchanges with the statutory auditor at year-end, when the teams and the auditor do not share a language.
Watch out for the false friends between accounting and social security systems. The headings on a payslip, the names of contributions, the ceilings and even the names of the institutions differ from country to country, and none has a perfect twin. Our practice comes down to three points: the source heading stays legible, an equivalent is added only where it is certain, a note explains the rest. An inspector accepts a note, never an improvised equivalence.
Four steps between your upload and the handover
A single project manager follows your finance & insurance file from the first message to the handover, so that no instruction gets lost on the way.
- 01
Send the document as it is
A phone snapshot will do, badly framed included. For a spoken assignment, give us the date, the address of the appointment and the two languages involved.
- 02
Price and deadline inside one hour
You receive the price, the handover date and the route chosen: sworn where an authority requires it, standard in every other case. No commitment attached.
- 03
A linguist from the field takes it on
The text goes to someone who uses finance & insurance terminology every day, and a second linguist reads it again before anything leaves us.
- 04
File delivered or interpreter on site
The file reaches you electronically. The stamped copy follows by registered post when the recipient insists on it, and the interpreter turns up at the agreed address.
An annual report to get out before the general meeting?
Financial terminology held in place by a glossary, two reads on every document, a price back inside one hour.
What changes the moment a finance & insurance file reaches us
The structure of the document does not move
It is the headings that change language, not the architecture. A line with no equivalent in the reader's framework is flagged as such: we do not slip it into the neighbouring category to make things look tidy.
Two pairs of eyes, not one more
On a sensitive file the list of people who open the documents runs to two names: the project manager and the translator. A word from you after handover and the upload space is emptied.
The specialist for the field, not the first one free
A specialised text goes to someone who practises in that area. A tight handover date does not suspend the rule: it only shortens the time we have to find the right person.
Confidentiality signed before anything is opened
Everyone involved signs a confidentiality undertaking before reaching your file. Documents sit on infrastructure located inside the European Union and are erased on a written request.
The approved quote is the invoice
Nothing is added later. Revision, layout work and delivery are inside the figure stated at the outset.
No travel charge
Luxembourg, Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange, Dudelange, Bettembourg, Mersch, Ettelbruck: the interpreter travels there without the journey being billed.
Frequently asked questions
A fund prospectus, who translates it?
A financial translator who has worked on this kind of document before, then a separate reviser. We ask for the earlier versions and for the group glossary if there is one: on texts like these, consistency from one update to the next counts as much as the accuracy of each sentence.
When does the sworn version become necessary?
For internal reporting, never. Before a court, a notary or a foreign administration, often, and legalisation of the translator's signature may be added depending on the recipient. Tell us where the document will be produced: we settle that before pricing, not after handover.
Do you work for audit firms?
Yes, and the year-end calendar sets the pace. Documents arrive in waves, often incomplete, and the final version only freezes late. We work on the successive versions following the changes, so that the last revision does not relaunch the translation of the whole document.
How do you protect confidential figures?
Four measures, all of them verifiable: confidentiality signed before the file is opened, hosting inside the territory of the Union, access restricted to the two people assigned, erasure on your written request. And at no stage a detour through a translation service open to the general public.
